Have you ever gotten ‘goosebumps’ when talking with someone who is inspirational to you?
The Immediate Past-President of the ACS, Dr Brent Eastman (above), and the new President of the ACS, Dr Carlos Pellegrini (below), have become instrumental mentors to me. For someone who is so early in their career, such as myself, to be recognized by these true leaders in the House of Surgery is very humbling. The equivalent to this experience might be if a person working in the mailroom were on a first name basis with the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. That’s what happens every time I see Brent or Carlos (yes, they asked me to call them by their first name) and they stop, engage in conversation, ask how Crystal is doing, etc. I feel compelled to post these pictures of me with each of these ‘giants’ in the world of surgery because their influence on my life has been so incredible.
The video link below does the same thing to me. It inspires me to be a better surgeon.
While it is intended to be viewed by surgeons, I think most people would agree that it is inspirational to anyone. Take a minute (actually just 2 minutes) and watch this. I suspect you may, too, find goosebumps on your arms.
